One of my favorite things about card making is creating tiny scenes that tell a story. This card makes me smile every time I look at it because there is so much happening inside the little woodland window.

Our little ladybug has settled onto a tree stump with a good book, while a friendly bee buzzes. Tucked among the mushrooms and leafy branches, the whole scene feels like a page from a children’s storybook.

I love cards like this because they invite you to slow down and notice all the little details. Every time you look, you find something new. The layered greenery frames the scene beautifully, while the deep berry-colored window adds just enough contrast to make the woodland image pop. A few die-cut flowers and leaves soften the edges and complete the whimsical design.

What makes this card even more fun is that it uses the same pop-up window technique from my previous cards. The dimensional fold gives the illusion of looking through a little window into the forest, adding depth without making the card difficult to mail.

Supplies

• Card base (5½” x 4¼”)
• Cardstock for the pop-up window (5½” x 6¼”)
• Window die (rectangle, circle, or your favorite shape)
• Patterned paper or stamped scene
• Stamps and coordinating dies
• Cardstock scraps for die cuts
• Adhesive
• Die-cutting machine
• Ink and embellishments of your choice

How to Make the Pop-Up Window

1. Create the card base.
   Start with a standard A2 card base measuring 5½” x 4¼”.
2. Cut the pop-up panel.
   Cut a piece of cardstock that is the same height as your card base but 2 inches wider. For an A2 card, this measures 5½” x 6¼”.
3. Score the panel.
   Along the 6¼-inch side, score at:
   • ½ inch
   • 1 inch
4. Fold the score lines.
   Fold on both score lines to create a small accordion fold (mountain and valley folds). This creates the dimension that allows the window to pop forward.
5. Die cut the window.
   Before assembling the card, die cut your window from the center of the pop-up panel.
6. Attach your background.
   Add your stamped or patterned background behind the window opening. For this card, I chose a whimsical woodland scene that instantly sets the stage for all of the adorable critters.
7. Glue the pop-up panel to the card base.
   Apply adhesive only to the outer sections of the accordion fold and adhere the panel to the front of your card base. Be careful not to glue the folded section shut—you want it to pop forward when the card is opened.
8. Build your scene.
   Add your die-cut images with dimensionals or liquid glue, layering them around the window to create depth and tell a story. I started with the reading ladybug as my focal point, then arranged the bee, caterpillar, ant, flowers, mushrooms, and leafy branches to create balance and movement.

One of the things I love most about this fun fold is how versatile it is. Change the background and you’ve created a completely different card! Try a beach scene, snowy landscape, floral garden, holiday village, or even a birthday celebration. The pop-up window works beautifully with almost any theme.
